A Trump-aligned Bitcoin mining company finalizes a massive hardware deal with Bitmain as trade tensions reshape the crypto mining landscape.
Major Hardware Purchase Secured
An American Bitcoin (BTC) mining firm, backed by associates of U.S. President Donald Trump, has purchased 16,299 Bitmain Antminer U3S21EXPH units, delivering a combined 14.02 EH/s of computing power.
The deal, valued at approximately $314 million, was finalized earlier this month and reported by industry outlet TheMinerMag.
The agreement includes a protection clause exempting the purchase from any price increases tied to recently announced U.S. trade tariffs on Chinese-manufactured mining hardware.
Bitmain Shifts Production to the U.S.
In response to these tariffs, Bitmain confirmed plans to open its first U.S.-based ASIC manufacturing plant by late 2025.
The company is also considering a new headquarters in Florida or Texas, aiming to reduce dependency on overseas production and avoid costly import duties.
Tariffs Reshape the Mining Supply Chain
With the Trump administration pushing aggressive trade tariffs to bring manufacturing back to U.S. soil, Bitcoin mining hardware producers are rethinking their global operations.
Industry research from the University of Cambridge shows that over 99% of Bitcoin mining hardware comes from just three companies — Bitmain, MicroBT, and Canaan — with Bitmain controlling around 82% of the market.
Mixed Reactions From the Industry
While some see the tariffs as an opportunity to strengthen U.S. crypto infrastructure, critics warn of potential downsides.
Jaran Mellerud, CEO of mining firm Hashlabs, cautioned that higher equipment costs could lower domestic demand, leaving manufacturers with excess inventory to sell overseas at lower prices.
“This could push Bitcoin mining back to other countries and ultimately make U.S. miners less competitive,” Mellerud noted.
The Road Ahead
As geopolitical tensions influence crypto mining strategies, the U.S. may see a short-term slowdown in domestic miner expansion. However, if manufacturers like Bitmain follow through on U.S. production plans, the industry could experience a long-term shift toward American-made mining rigs.
